System Level Design

The System Architecture path focuses on how complex digital systems are structured, partitioned, and connected. It explains how hardware blocks interact, how data moves inside a system, and how design choices affect performance, cost, and power.

The goal is to understand the principles behind system-level thinking: interfaces, buses, memory hierarchies, concurrency, communication, and the trade-offs that guide architectural decisions.

This path connects low-level digital design with higher-level system behavior, preparing you for topics such as FPGA prototyping, hardware–software integration, and real-world embedded systems.

System‑Level Tools

FIFO — Architecture & Fundamentals
A key architectural element for decoupling timing domains and managing flow control.

Arbiter — Architecture & Fundamentals
A key architectural mechanism for fairness, contention management, and resource allocation.

Clock Domain Crossing — Architecture & Fundamentals
CDC as a fundamental architectural concern for multi‑clock systems

FSM — Architecture & Fundamentals
The behavioral backbone of protocols, initialization flows, and system coordination.

8b/10b — Overview, Tables & Implementation Notes
A DC‑balanced line code for serial communication.
